Hi,
Just wondering where to start with this. A minibus owned and insured by the local university backed into my car causing damage. I have all the details so how to i claim? obviously I dont want to be paying excess etc. should i contact my insurer or the company the provides my motoring legal cover? or the other drivers insurer direct?

You inform your insurance company and give them the other drivers details. Don't do anything else.0

bristol is exactly right, ring yoru insurer and they will deal with everything, if your car is damaged they will usually arange a courtesy car pending repair and claim costs from 3rd party0

You do not need to use your own insurer. If you do you will still have to pay your excess and pursue the third party for this and all other uninsured losses
From what you say liability rests with the third party.
You could use a claim handler to sort this out direct with the third party insurer. They will sort out any hire car and any other costs etc.0 -
Thanks for the replys. I dont really need a hire car straight away as it was only the front wing that was hit and as its plastic it just cracked. im guessing replacment will take a couple of days though. I really dont want my insurer involved if need be. As the last post said, and as I thought, I would be liable to a heafty excess at least and probably a rise in priemium next year even though i did nothing wrong! I have motoring legal cover provided by a finacial company i deal with as a free tag on to the product i have from them. I think i might start with that0

Claim handlers have more incentive to get on with the job than any legal expense cover you may have!
They add their fees on to your claim, and will ensure you claim for everything you are entitled to, and do act fast once they have taken your case on.0 -
I was under the impression that claims handlers are not entitled to fees, only solicitors. Solicitors fees are only paid by the other side if there is personal injury (unless over the small claims limit).
I'm willing to be corrected if I'm wrong as I don't deal with many motor claims.0 -
You will have to declare it as a no fault accident at reknewal anyway0
