Get off the hobby horse and let those that want to be educated through the sharing of knowledge do so.
I think its better said that those that do not have any savings in the icelandic banks go away and do their own thing, we are quite capable of making choices rightly or wrongly, whos to say.
jp01, you are sounding more like one of those american religious fanatics on those TV God shows everyday.

I wonder which bank Peston will target next? RBS? And if so, where will people move their money to then?
As his blog is now so popular he could make a killing just by short selling and making a few comments about the same company

Hallelujah!
Now referring to other previous posts in this thread (not home_alone's btw!):
I don't understand how Peston can be "allowed" to have links with the government and report "impartially" on the BBC too - odd World we live in. Mind you, just how impartial is the BBC any more, look at the run on NR coverage?
As it's fashionable to do, shouldn't I now post a raft of similar sourced newspaper article links that support my claim (to prove I must be correct?!), oh and SHOUT THEM IN CAPITALS too.
I can't really be bothered it's been covered enough times in: The Times, Private Eye and other blogs, here's just one: http://adrianmonck.com/2008/09/robert-pestons-impeccable-sources/
So that must mean I'm correctly surely. Actually no, it's just on opinion, but one I'm not trying to ram down others throats.0 -
I'm just about to tie up 40k in a 1yr bond with Icesave - I really have no concerns about this. They are nowhere near as exposed as some UK based institutions are at the moment.0

The party's over for Iceland, the island that tried to buy the world
Iceland is on the brink of collapse. Inflation and interest rates are raging upwards. The krona, Iceland's currency, is in freefall and is rated just above those of Zimbabwe and Turkmenistan. One of the country's three independent banks has been nationalised, another is asking customers for money.
The billionaires who own everything from West Ham United football club to the Somerfield supermarket chain, Hamleys toy shops and the House of Fraser, are in trouble and the country is drowning in debt.Iceland's cheap labour force, the Poles and Lithuanians, have left already - there's little point in sending home such a worthless currency, and the tourist season is over. Iceland is on its own.0 -
Interesting point.
I have 30k in Principality at 5.75%. I may look at a fixed rate somewhere.
On the other hand, I might not bother
This whole thing is just too much for me to be honest. This site is great, but can scare the living daylights out of you too
Off to lie down in a dark room.QUOTE=]
Birmingham Midshires are doing a one year fixed account at 7% if you can be bothered moving.0 -

Interest rates have been stable 1t 15% for some time, and whilst inflation is high it's on the back of a long boom.
The krona, Iceland's currency, is in freefall - Hardly - It's dropping but so is the pound amongst others.
One of the country's three independent banks has been nationalised, The country has 5 or more independant banks
another is asking customers for money. No it isn't
The billionaires who own everything are in trouble and the country is drowning in debt.
No they arn't and the country is has a public sector debt of zero
Iceland is on its own.
No it isn't - all the scandanvian central banks have a co-operation agreement, and the Icelandic central bank has links to the ECB.0 -
