fault with brand new dell 1525

my aunt has bought a new inspiron 1525 straight out of the box and it wont start up. the power light comes on on the power lead but when you try switching it on nothing. the dell help line is next to useless so unless any one on here can tell me something i might be doing wrong it will be going back. theres another post on here with the same problem but it seems theirs is older is it possible the power connector is faulty?

thanks chris

There should be a charging light that illuminates on the laptop as well. Get her to make sure she's pushed in the plug into the laptop far enough. She may not have for fear of damaging it.
