Help. wireless setup :/

Hi there. On my main pc i have my wanadoo live box.. using the ethernet at the moment.. but my mums got a computer she wants to set up to it using the wireless connection. Ive used it before on a friends laptop.. BUT

tried lots of things to install the drivers/setup onto mums computer not working? Recognises the wireless but won't install it off the disk. But I think there is a problem with the disk as it wont even go past the first screen *setup/quit* and then when you try and press something most of the time it says there is already a setup open when there isn't.

Ive never had a problem with installing it on friends laptop.

Had a quick search for drivers to put onto a new blank disc but no look. Will this be the case? Or can anyone point me into the right direction?

Let me get this straight. Your mum lives in the same house as you, and she wants to connect wirelessly to the router?
To connect wirelessly, she just needs to find the connection and put in the WEP password (Or whatever it is)

  • Yes my pc is in my room, Mums is downstairs.. how can she find a connection though if it wont install it :( the wireless is working because i tried it on this PC. It just needs installing downstairs.

What needs installing? The drivers for the wireless network adapter or do you just need to connect it to the wireless network?

Are you saying the drivers for the wireless card / dongle for your mums computer won't install correctly? If so, post the model number and we'll find the right driers. You do not need to install their wireless software, just the windows drivers.

If however the drivers are installed, and its just the wanadoo wireless software that isn't working then that doesn't matter. If its like my orange livebox, there is a button on it that has a wireless symbol. Press this,, as it will put it in a linking mode. Next, double click on the wireless network icon, select your wireless network and type in the wep / wpa key.

The key is pressing the button on the router - on my laptop it wasn't neccessary but my wifes it was.
  • Yes it recognises the dongle thing but won't install drivers.

If you type "inventel" into the orange help search, you get a walkthrough. But apparently the software supplied with the adapter is totally borked and has been causing pain for everyone. Don't worry OP, it's not just you.

I've uploaded the drivers here: (You have to choose "free user" and wait for a minute or two before it will let you download.)

    http://rapidshare.com/files/150817890/Inventel_UR054g.zip.html

What to do is unzip those files to a folder somewhere. (Open the zip in windows, click extract files.)

Then plug in the USB adapter. If you get prompted to let windows automatically install drivers or to search yourself, choose serach yourself. Then type to include a folder in your driver search, and specify the folder you unzipped the files to (those files are the drivers.)

If you don't get prompted when you plug the adapter into a USB port, you can start the driver search manually by going to control panel > add new hardware.

    Good luck.
