Problems switching to Scottish Power
Options
Hi all - new to the forum and am starting with a big rant! ;-)
I began my application to switch from BG Click Energy 5 to Scottish Power Online Fixed 2009 Tarrif through Money Saving Expert on 26th July.
Scottish Power received the application 1st August and began the process.
There seemed to be problems with BG rejecting my elec application, but gas had apparently gone through.
I called BG a few times and they couldn't see why there would be a problem, so SP kept resubmitting the app. Then 2 weeks ago I spoke to someone at BG who said that SP hadn't tried to submit an app. Confused.com!
Turns out that SP had been trying to take over the wrong property!
So now I'm in a situation where 2 months on I'm having to resubmit both application from scratch and in the meantime BG have increased my tariff by 45%.
Little bit frustrated here as I'd planned the switch so I didn't get stung with the BG hike (they kept Click Energy 5 at the same price until last week) and now I'm going to have to wait at least another 6 weeks for the switch to SP.
Apart from all that I've spent hours and money calling BG and SP to sort this out, I'm going to get stung with the BG price hike, AND SP have got to open my account on another tariff, then I have to call Customer Complaints to get them to change it to the original tariff I applied for! Really really frustrated here.
Has anyone else had these sort of issues and should I try and get some compensation from SP?
Any advice appreciated.

You won't get stung by the price rise if you advise BG of your intention to switch supplier within 10 days of being notified of that change. Have you actually got a letter yet telling you of a price rise or are you just going by the advice given on this or their website?
Then BG will need the application I think to be received within 15 days of receiving that notice.
So don't panic - you can still enjoy the pre-increase prices from BG. What you need to ensure is that SP submit the correct details this time.
As regards a compo claim from SP, best of luck. Personally I think if a supplier can't get a switch correct (assuming it was their error) then they don't deserve my custom and I'd be looking to place it elsewhere."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Thanks for your quick, helpful response.
I haven't received a letter from BG, I was just going on the advice from this website, so that makes me a feel much better!
I did think twice about moving to SP, however that tariff seems to be pretty competitive. Of course if you can advise on any other tariffs I should be looking at that would be great.
Thanks again!0
