what is a reasonable time to expect a parcel to be posted in

Having used ebay for a number of years recently its all been going wrong. I ordered 2 2GB Duo's and paid via paypal and they haven't turned up (seller has given me a Recorded Delivery reference but Royal mail have no information on it). So I've put in a paypal chargeback and if they don't find in my favour I'll go to the credit card company.

Yesterday I chased an item that I paid for via Paypal at about 9am on 21st November. The seller replied that he had not yet sent the item but would be doing so in the next few days (china from the 1960's so its not waiting on a release date). At the time I paid I asked for it to be sent to my work asap as I finish work this Friday and I'm emigrating. The seller has said I am being unreasonable and should have not bid if I wanted it earlier than the 21 working days stated in his auction. I personally think that having paid for the item 8 working days ago it is not unreasonable to expect it to have been posted and I assumed the auction details saying 21 days was just to cover him for the post office losing it and the time before he could claim from them. Am I being unreasonable in expecting it to have been sent by now?

I personally get things posted as soon as the person pays. I dont want stuff hanging around. And I also think 21 days is a long time to wait.

But if he states in his auction that it will be up to 21 days delivery, then he doesnt have to send them out straight away as he has covered himself.
  • Using information provided by Tempuscat in a recent post about paypal requirements:

    Posting and Posting Documentation Conditions

    i. The seller posts the item(s) to the buyer within 7 days of receiving payment.

So i assume that no matter what the seller puts in his description paypal rules should override this.

    I'd do a chargeback.

As Kaminari says, you could, in theory, start another chargeback against this seller, but it's probably best just to leave appropriate feedback when the time comes.
  • The timing of this was important because spottydog is emigrating and tomorrow is the last day they will be at the delivery address. If it doesn't arrive tomorrow i would definately do a chargeback.
I'd still let him know about paypal rules and if he does get huffy about it i would report him.
As i have mentioned in a previous thread, i don't think there is any excuse for poor service. I sell on Amazon and get everything out within 24 hours and send an email thanking them for the purchase and letting them know it will be in the mail today or first thing in the morning. When i start on ebay i will get everything out within 24 of payment and i will also give the buyer an update email. It avoids a whole lot of agro.

Good point, although the seller could send it recorded as soon as the chargeback comes in and very likely prove delivery in time to stop it.

they can put what they like in the listings but they still have to follow ebay rules which are a clear 7 days

personally i don't like waiting the entire 7 days and i will often compensate in some small way if i have to wait that long to post out for whatever reasons, even if it's because i'm ill

customer service is of top priority and this person needs to get his head out of his ar*e and live up to ebays rules... tell him that HE'S the unreasonable one thinking he can superceed ebays rules by 2 weeks then come back and get cheeky with you about needing delivery within that time frame

  • Masonic, I'd bank on them not being smart enough to do that. Also after tomorrow spotty dog is not going to be at the address to sign for it and unless it is signed for it is not delivered. Lets hope it gets there by tomorrow.

Possibly, although being given 10(?) days to provide the necessary information might cause the penny to drop. Presumably, someone will be at spottydog's place of work to sign for the item if it did turn up after Friday. I suppose if there's a chance the seller might get caught out, it may be worth the risk, but neg feedback is in order whatever happens.
  • If a listing said I should allow 21 working days for delivery, I'd assume that would include the 15 working days RM allow before classifying mail as lost, which would mean I'd expect the package to be sent within 6 working days.
I once dealt with an American seller who left a retaliatory neg for another customer who had negged him for taking 4 days to send something!
