Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop wont turn on - ideas?

I was using the laptop last night on AC power, switched it off as usual and now this morning it wont turn on.

The green light is lit on the mains lead power block but the laptop is completely dead, no sounds or lights at all.

The connector on the back of the laptop where the mains power lead plugs into can sometimes be dodgy so I wondered if the power wasn't actually getting to the battery to charge it but there should still have been some power left in the battery to at least turn on or try to, if nothing else.

Any ideas? Repairable or gone?

It's out of warranty btw.

repairable for about £100 , or less if you feel brave and handy with a soldering iron

Sounds like what happened to mine - power socket came loose and didn't get any power to the laptop, so it eventually ran right out. I had my power socket replaced for £115, but I'm once again having the same problem, so I'm going to replace the laptop with a netbook when it finally gives up the ghost.

    Make £2020 in 2020 - £263.78/£2020

    2020 totals
    Swagbucks - £100 | Prolific Academic - £44.54 | Qmee - £10 | PopulusLive - £50

Repairable. Google for a disassembly guide for your particular laptop. You'll have hundreds of screws to take out, and there'll probably some left over after you put it all together again. You'll have to learn how to solder. It's not hard. It's one or two simple electronic connections broken at the DC power jack.

Thanks all. I'm a fairly practical sort so I'm not phased by the thought of having to solder. The Inspiron is a pretty standard, well known laptop so there's bound to be some diagrams & guides out there.

    Wish me luck, lol.
