Sorry to gatecrash the thread, but we need a bit of advise and pointing in the right direction. On Friday night my brother-in-law had a really bad fall down the stairs and broke his neck. He's in hospital and paralysed from the chest down. Can someone please point in the right direction to get my sister some help. At the moment obviously everything is up in the air and it's really early days, but my sister is so worried about the financial side of things, he's the main breadwinner.
Tha mortgage is insured, but I thought if I could try and find out what financial help they will be able to get this would take at least a little of the strain out the awful situation we find the family in.

This is where I post most frequently so I feel more comfortable here and you all helped me back in the summer when I other personal problems.
I djust don't know what to do. If I don't reply to any posts immediately it's because we need to go the hospital in a bit, but I will keep popping back as much as I can.

Sorry to drop this into the weekend mix. But she will need so much help and this is the best place to find it.

Mrs Dawn - so sorry to hear about your bil. Do they know yet if the injury is permanent?

Best thing I can think of is the CAB - they will be able to inform your sister of what she will be entitled to now

Big hugs for you and your family x x

Miss Dawn I am so sorry to hear of your BIL accident, I hope the damage isnt permanent. Just goes to show how your life can change direction so suddenly.

As far as help goes, I agree with Bunny, the hospital will have some liason officer who can give your sister some immediate advice as to what to do and what she may be entitled to. Sorry I couldnt be of more help:o
But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.
  • monring all, well just afternoon now I guess, animals clean room hoovered breakfast eaten,

now I am going to have a quick shower

Mrs Dawn, I think the CAB would be the best bet. perhaps you could help her get out all the insurance related papers - in terms of the mortgage and go with her? welll I actually I am sure you will have done that/do that already, sorry hon, it must be an unbelievable shock. xxxxx

Mrs Dawn - your sister needs to speak to the PALS team at the hospital as a first port of call. They will have access to information. If the hospital has a resource centre they will have a whole host of leaflets, contacts etc who can help. Some hospitals have a CAB person once a week who comes in to speak to patients and their families about issues.

Dinner went better than expected last night, other than OH calling as I arrived asking is he had 'another 10 minutes' in the pub. I gave him a sharp 'no'!! and then he decided to embarrass his son at the table by telling the whole family about the poor lad's 'piercing' (guess where!) Not quite sure where he got that desire from to share this detail over starter...... He wasn't drunk but had had a few and then had quite a few more over dinner!! His daughter is lovely and his Dad and step mum were nice. After dinner OH insisted on everyone going downstairs to the bar with cheesy music and disco lights (his dad is 72!) and to give them their due, they all stayed for 1 drink, although it was a horrible bar, all the women were in their 40s, spray tanned and wearing high heels and very short skirts, a definite mutton dressed as lamb bar!!!

By this time the rain had turned into a deluge. OH, me, his son, daughter and friend went to another bar/club and the others went back to the hotel. God, what a bar. It was such a cattle market. Blokes just trying to leer at any woman who would catch their eye, far too busy for me, OH went for a cigarette at one point and 2 guys literally walked straight up to me the second he walked off!!! I did notice the older the bloke the more desperate their actions, all a bit pathetic really....apparently that's where OH watches the football sometimes and then 'looks at the women'........ahem....

Anyway, the 'youngsters' were feeling a bit cramped having Dad there so told him he was embarrassing them :rotfl: which was good news as I didn't want to stay. We went outside and it was pouring still and the doorways were crammed full of smokers and I got soaking wet waiting for OH to finish his cigarette. Luckily a taxi pulled up and we got in around 1.30.

His family all came round this morning before heading off. His dad told me as he hugged me last night that I was 'really lovely' :o and that I have to go up there and they came take me out around the area.

I'm now knackered. Having a night out has taken me off my hamster wheel of work and I need to get back on as I have the week from hell ahead.

OH seriously let himself down with a comment as we got back last night but I pulled him up on it well and truly and I think he actually regretted what he said as he tried to get out of it, but he realised he'd !!!!ed up.

And the cost of dinner for 9??.........£306.............
