Spring count in beds

I have repeatedly read that the higher the spring count the better the bed so when researching beds I have been looking for 2000 or greater pocket springs. However, when I have been into some stores and tested I actually found that I was more comforatble on one with 1600 springs.

We are looking for a king divan with quite a firm mattress (so we can't feel too much of the other one moving about) - has anybody had any experience with this?

I realise there are some other threads on this but they tend to talk about brands rather than features of a bed.

I'm afraid that when they tell you "the more springs the better", it is just sales hype in order to get you to spend more.

The truth is that more than 800 pocket springs in a king size mattress is enough to do what pocket springs are designed to do. If a mattress has too many springs then each spring has to be so small to fit into the mattress that it can be easily damaged.

I usually recommend between 1000 and 1800 springs.

With a pocket sprung mattress it doesn't need to be firm in order to prevent you from feeling your partner move about, because pocket springs all work independently anyway. So you can go for a firmness that you find comfortable.
