  • I was told by my HV that leaving a baby where their legs are being squashed against the back seat is dangerous as if there was any kind of impact (crash) LO legs would take the impact and not the seat!!
we have a bebe comfort similar to this one

easy to fit and has isofix (if your car is fitted with isofix points).
We got ours cheap on boots, I think it was possibly a half price deal so it's worth looking early if you have space to store them.

Your midwife's advice goe against just about every other piece of car seat advice I've ever seen! The problem with putting young babies in stage 1 seats is that their necks are not fully able to take an impact. In a rear facing seat the carseat takes the impact instead of the child's neck. It is far better to risk your child having a broken ankle in a smash instead of a neck, head or spinal injury which is much more likely in a forward facing seat.

I won't say what I think of your HV advice but suffice to say she quite obviously hasn't had any training on the subject. Just a brief search on the 'net will show plenty of more qualified advice that goes against that.

In the scandinavian countries their children don't turn forward facing until about 4 or 5 because it is so much safer to be rear facing.
