    Hi,

Last weekend we went into Southampton JL to look at HD TVs.

    We bought one for £800.

During the discussions - which went on for 20 minutes, we were told about the "Knowlingly undersold" policy. We told & I quote "that if we found the item sold cheaper by a shop, within 28 days, then we could have price difference". Also would not match internet prices.

So on this basis, we bought the TV.

Next day, I discovered that a local shop had for £699 - so I thought - good - call JL, get £100. No probs I thought!! How wrong can you be!!

Turns out that the actually agreement is that it must be on display - no mention was made of this at all!!! I recieved letter inpost, with leaflet showing t&cs ...

My attitude is that what the sales assitant told me at the time of purchase was the contract between JL & me - I don't see how they can add clauses after the event??

I am going to write a letter, but wandering what people thought?

    Thanks Mark

Mmmm - I'm not sure if you could try to return it, saying that you've changed your mind - they do normally take goods back if they are packed as new - then they might react diffrently.

By the way, I've had similar experiences with their price match. I once got them to price match an electrical retailer on an expensive washing machine. The retailer sussed them out, because when I phoned back to re-confirm the price he recoconised me and basically told me not to get John Lewis to phone up trying to match the price. The other classic was when they matched a price, the reduced it in store and sold out before I had a chance to buy it. On other occassions, they've matched it without even checking. Good Luck
