Argos Direct - Writing item ON the packet

Hey there.

I just got home from a long day to find a nice new xbox 360 game waiting for me. Great.

The rant is regards to how it has been packed. Pre-ordered from Argos Direct a month ago, Fifa 2009 came today as expected. The packet was a tight bag with a sticker on the front.

The sticker contained my name, address, and quite clearly in the middle "FIFA 2009 XBOX 360" which a lot of poeple will know is quite new and expensive.

I live in student accomodation with 2 guys I don't know, and 1 good friend. My good friend found the game on one of the other guys desk. I'm sure he would have given it to me, but I also live in Stafford. I reference Stafford because they have been found guilty of having postmen who steal valuable items!

Now I understand sometimes it can be unavoided, but by writing the contents of the package on the front, surely it is ridiculous! You may as well just write on it "Contains £39.99" for goodness sake.

I'm thinking about writing a complaint but not sure if I'm just over-reacting or if other people think that in todays world, it's a very insecure thing to do! If everything from Argos Direct gets written on the packet, I'll think twice before spending more than £20 there every again!

They do this for all small items as they are not delivered by Argos directly, they are delivered by the courier service (Network Delivery???). Apart from large furniture they put it on to identify your packages, delivery order number etc. because there may be other items from other companies in the van. You could write to Argos Direct but to be perfectly honest you might not get anywhere - i'd leave it be personally. You can write if you like, no harm in trying.

    Hope this helps.

  • Thanks for that djb :)

I agree that a delivery order number or something to identify it is reasonable, but the item itself? Takes away privacy completely. I wonder how many embarrasing items we could find on Argos Direct. Think of all the men/women who have ordered a birthday present or something only for the surprise to be ruined lol!

I just think it's a ridiculous thing to do! Ah well

I wouldn't bother writing tbh, I'd save your frustration for when you have a genuine complaint.

I'm not saying this is not genuine, but if you write, your complaint will be recorded, next time you complain to Argos, your details will pop up and you may well become known as a “Regular”

  • Thats true, though in all honesty I doubt many people would buy from there again if they knew the item was going to be written on the packet haha.
