EDF Energy Price hike for DD Monthly
Options
Hi,
First post although ive been lurker for a long time.:D
I got my EDF Gas bill yesterday and they have made a yearly review of my account and decide to change my monthly DD from £47.00 to £95.00 per month. The funny thing is they tell me not to worry they will make the change for me - how considerate.
Anyway i asked around a few people in work today who have similar 4 bedroom houses mine is mid terraced, efficient (3yr old combi), gas fire (hardly used) and its empty most of the day.
What i find a bit annoying is my current bill for Jun 30 - 6th Aug is £118.68. Now i know ill be using my gas more in the coming months for heating and perhaps the fire at night but i find this rise unacceptable. if im going to be paying them £95 per month thats nearly £300 for the quarter and perhaps my bill will only go up 20%. So they get nearly £300 of me and my bill is only at the most lets says £160 so they are going to be getting interest payments of my overpayments.
Am i being too sensitive or does anyone else think this is too much.
I have all the details on the bill about charges units etc, if anyone can make anything out of it.
cheers
Paul

Look back over your bills and find two readings a year apart. Make sure they're actual readings, not estimates. Calculate the toal kwh used for gas (only gas from EDF?) and check the current rate. Do the maths (don't forget VAT) and divide by 12.
Hit EDF with this - I've done this and found suppliers reasonable about this. So long as you can give a reasonably accurate annual usage they'll take that as a basis for calculating monthly payments.0 -
Thanks for the help. i am waiting to give them a call but its been busy for ages now, im about to give up and try again in the morning. I personally havent got the figures as i shred everything but they will have.
Thanks again0 -
Have no experience with EDF, but with the suppliers I've had over the last couple of years, you can look online at past meter readings and bills.
Looking at your original post again, it would seem that your gas for July was working out at over £20 a week so you'll be lucky if £95 a month will cover your bills if the 6th Aug bill was based on readings. I'm assuming you'll be using gas heating over the winter?
If the 6th Aug reading is accurate (not estimated), you'll be able to calculate how much you'll be charged for the two months of Aug and Sept if you read it now.0 -
Hi,
Well i finally spoke to EDF and we have knocked the monthly payment to £50, with me keeping an eye on any balances that I owe them. Id prefer to keep it this way then at least any money i owe them is coming from my account and not my bunch of credits on their system.
Thanks again0
