benefit entitlement whilst waiting to start new job

Hi there,

I have just come to the end of a fixed term contract so am now out of work. Luckily I have been offered a new job but will have a while to wait as it requires a disclosure, occ health check etc. I am looking at temping etc but what with the current climate am worried about finding anything. Does anyone know if you can claim benefits whilst you wait to start work if that makes sense?

Yes, as you are actively seeking work you are entitled to JSA and other benefits (circumstance dependent).
There is zero benefit from saying you have a prospective job opportunity until such times as a contract is signed.

Be careful with temping work while on benefit moreso if you require housing and council tax benefits as these types of benefits take some time to be paid. If you can be sure of several weeks continuous full time work temping then IMO it's worthwhile otherwise it's best avoided.
