Help with loan please!

Hi all - wondered if someone can help me please.

Today i rang up the company who my loan is with to see what the balance is - they told me it was £0 and thanked me for paying the remaining balance. The thing is i havent paid it off and there should be quite a high amount left - in the thousands.
I asked them to send me a confirmation that it has been paid and also a statement (so i can try and work out why and how it has been paid).

What i am wondering really though is that if i do get this statement/confirmation can they contact me in the future if it has all been an error?

I have never known this to happen before so dont know where i stand here!

Hope this makes some sense to some people :o

Any help would be much appreciated!

I have three times! Used my account reference number they asked me all the security questions - address, date of birth, name etc... i got them to check and double check.

But what happens when they do send out my statement and it confirms that it has all been paid off? Im really not sure where i stand with this!

  • Wait for couple of days till you receive the statement. Go thro it carefully with each entry. So, you will know what happened with the loan and all.
    Have a nice time.

check your experian report (for free if it's your first check) this month. that will tell you how much you owe according to your creditors. if it says 0, and the statement says 0, take a printed copy of each. then save the money you were thinking would paying the loan with, and save it for the period. just incase.

remember to cancel experian membership before the months up too, save paying £5.99
Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?
  • Hi,
I had this happen to me a couple months ago with the Alliance and Leicester, you will suddenly get a letter to apologise for there mistake.
If i were you i would put the monthly payments to one side, and wait for that dreaded letter.
Apparently an employee paid off my account instead of the person who settled there account in full.
It will take the time for the loan settler to realise and complain his account is still live.
It would be great if this was cleared for you,but if my experience was anything to go by,expect a bump down to earth soon.

Just out of interest did they penalise you for the lack of payments over the few months while this mess up happened? Thats what i am worried about.

There is another possibly exaplanation that another company has paid it off (long story - dont really want to go into it on here until i have found out who made the payment), so might be coming back for some more advice if it is!

Just want the statement to hurry up and arrive :rotfl:

  • Penalise me,no they requested immediate payment to get my account up to date, and apologised for their mistake.
I even tried to get a free months payment for the "stress and worry" it caused, but to no availl.
Sit tight let them come to you,
Good Luck if you can get away with it though.
    Keep us informed.
