The best way to draughtproof a small letterbox?

I have a small letterbox, which doesn't have any form of draughtproofing.:eek:

In my attempt to stop some of the draughts downstairs, I'm hoping to draughtproof it. I did try a standard size some time ago, but failed miserably - I can't remember why though. :rotfl:

Anyway, the hole where my bills are shoved through, is 35mm wide and 162mm high. As you can imagine, my postie loves my letterbox in the freezing cold, when he's trying to stuff it full with bulky, clumsy junkmail. :rotfl::A

I was going to consider a cheap bath sponge, splitting it in half and seeing how I got on - but I'll see what suggestions are thrown my way, first.

Before I got my flap I used to use a piece of that artificial leather stuff, just 2 screws through it to hold it on above the letter box.
Then to dog started shredding my post so I got a letterbox basket. When it was cold I'd wrap it in clingfilm.
Then the dog started ripping the basket of the front door  to get to the post.
This year we have built a porch.

  • I find itamusing that I have a white PVC double glazed door that is lined with seals to stop rain and draughts and then we put a bloody big hole in the middle of it with two flimsy flaps. Crazy!
