nursing chair

Hi, my dd2 has just had her firstborn and I asked her what she wanted/needed for a gift but not clothes etc as they have received so many of them. She asked for a nursing chair/nursing bean bag cushion. Can any new mums recommend anything for me - and approximate cost please. Thanks.

I think nursing chairs are quite expensive and little used.If you are comfortable with used goods,I would look at ebay.
  • Also try ikea they have a chair that is not specifically a nursing chair but a lot cheaper and just as good!

I am not pg, but I told my OH, that when we finally get there, I am getting a rocking/gliding nursing chair - might not be much use for nursing, but I love rocking chairs and they remind my of childhood at grandma's so much, that I am going to get on anyway!

I'd say a nursing chair is probably not worth the money. Positioning is usually only really a problem when the baby is small and you're just getting used to feeding, so she'll probably find it'll only really be useful for a month or two, maybe 3. I'd definitely recommend a nursing pillow, as they are a lot cheaper and can be used for a lot longer, as a back support cushion or to support the baby when it starts to sit up by itself. Also a cushion is moveable so you can feed in different rooms rather than having to go and sit on a specific chair in order to be comfy. I bought 2 pillows, one was a really fat one, and then later on when my son was a bit bigger I got a smaller one that was a bit softer.

We ot one from ebay (brand new) for just over £100, we still use it every night and love it and my DS is 14 months old.

My SIL on the other hand bought one for her DS and has hardly used it.

I'd agree with Wendy & get the one from kiddicare. She found a great one whilst I was still looking for a link. They are normally as much as the RRP says.

Assemble it for her too, & you will be the best grandfather ever :D

The beanbag feeding cushion she's after is probably one like this

Edit- the kiddicare one is out of stock & on preorder. There are some others available here

Get a Vee pillow like the nursing cushion you saw - it is great for keeping comfy in bed when pregnant, then can be used to prop baby to a good height to breastfeed, then baby can be propped up on it when it's a little older, then finally left behind baby when it's learning to sit up - it saves banged head when playing face to face with littles.:D

Thanks for all your help. She decided to go for the Poang chair from Ikea. Her MIL is going to get a cushion for her, so she should be all set now!

I think the chair is good because once she's stopped feeding, it will be a useful item in the home generally. Her sister went for it and she says it's very comfortable. She got the foot stool too, so it will be better for a quick mid day nap when baby's resting.
