Broken Wing mirror
Hi,
I accidently clipped someone's wing mirror the other day, stopped and passed on my number.
The damaged seemed minimal, the back cover had popped off, but the mirror and everything else was intact.
However the other driver has called me and said he needs a full new wing mirror (as he thinks some electrics have been damaged) at a cost of £220.
I've asked for a copy of the quote, but in the mean time, what does everyone think is a realistic price for a new and fitted wing mirror should be?
The car was a Ford Focus and either a 51 or 52 plate I think
thanks!

its probably about right , theyre not cheap and neither is labour and the fact it probably needs painting0

Don't annoy him too much or he will claim from your insurance. Just need to grin a pay it after you have checked around for prices.0

Sounds like he may be trying to claim for the full price of a wing mirror and not getting all the work done as its needed. Admittedly a complete mirror assy will cost about that but just a borken cap (even if it needed painting) would only cost about £60-70 and you can fit it yourself in 2mins.
I'd ask for a pukka quote and then offer to pay the garage direct rather than give them cash.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0 -
i can easily see how it would cost that much at a main dealer, fitting and spraying
some cars need their door card taking off to fit, so thats a lot at at main dealer when you add it all up
I think you will just have to pay0 -

They sometimes do to add the damage onto the bill:rolleyes:
If you can take a small camera in your car, And take a photo for evidence.
Had this years ago in a works van, He asked for 50.00 on the spot so I argued with him and gave him 30.00.Thomson 757 Man0 -
Tell him to get stuffed.......then give him your insurance details.........thats what insurance is for........oh and by the way even if you pay him out cash you HAVE to tell your insurance company0

I bought one for an Astra I was running a year ago and it was ten quid for a brand new one, but I got the tvvat who knocked it off to give me 20 quid.
Get a 2nd hand one from a scrappy, cos lets face it the one on his Focus wasn't brand new was it...?!0 -
200 quid for a wing mirror is expensive....
i got a golf mk5 and it cost me £40 for the wing mirror it was the right colour, mate fitted it on ....total cost £40
However id just pay the £200 quid and leave it at that as u do not want him claiming.0 -
Someone hit the door mirror of our Subaru Outback and knocked the back off and broke some of the internal plastic. Everything still works ok, but the whole unit needs replacing. £270 + vat + fixing. The OP didn't stop so it looks like the £350 is left for us to pay! Even £200 sounds expensive, but when you think of what they cram into them these days, and it's not a mass produced item with all the changing styles, colours and internals over time.Russ.0
