Beware C&G

I was thinking C & G seem to be one of the more flexible lenders around at the moment

    - however this perception is merely based on the fact that C & G have a deal with Northern Rock to offer remortgages for NR's customers at end of fixed rates - I received a letter but haven't taken up offer - and also the poster on the thread about the mortgage offer (Bristol & West) being withdrawn on day of completion appears to have been able to get a new mortgage with C & G quite quickly (with a guarantor though).

Sounds like C & G are getting jittery. Unsettling times indeed.

Hi, yeah that was me! They have been great with us. So far...

Until things are actually completed and we're in the new place nothing is certain!

I've been with them for almost a year and while the product that I took was one of the markets best at the time, the service from the call centre has been awful. On occasions I've been on hold for almost an hour and their callback feature simply rings the number you give them and then puts you into the queue for another long wait. Thankfully I have not had to contact them for some time. Patience definitely required to deal with these guys.

70 minutes on hold chasing up a client's case earlier this year. Beyong a joke

  • My recent experiences with C&G have reinforced my view that they only employ idiots incapable of undertaking basic requests.

What a sweeping and frankly offensive statement. I work for C&G in a branch and am certainly not an idiot. I also have no problem helping brokers out where I can as do many other branches, especially those that they had a good relationship with before things got centralised. I understand the sentiments about broker service but there is no need to be so insulting towards every person working there just because you've had problems somewhere. Try calling a branch, especially if you had good contact there before and you may get some help. However, if you were one of the minority who thought they could shout and swear as if they were king then don't bother as you may not get very far :p

I went into a C&G branch recently to enquire about a savings account. I got shoved a rates leaflet and then the member of staff walked away. I was in there for about 40 seconds. Thats NOT good service at all. I was the only person in the bank. The rest of the staff were round the back of the counter (no tills were manned) having a natter.....think I interrupted something.

Imagine what that makes me think about C&G as a brand.....certainly not one I would want to place my clients with if thats the treatment that I have had.

I was very impressed with the service I received. I booked a re-mortgage deal on 1st Nov to take effect 1st Feb. The process (via a broker) was very quick and efficient. I received regular text alerts from C & G telling me what stage the process was at.

There were no problems or complications and I found them easier to deal with than Halifax who I was moving from. Everything was set up and in place ready to take effect and I was very happy to receive the 3 base rate cuts that followed from Nov when booked.

I must admit I have had no need to call them since then so if/when I do need to call them I will see how they are.
Excited for Florida - May 2012 :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
