Beware C&G

To any brokers and posters looking at C&G just beware of their service levels at present
Also take heed, that they are declining previously agreed cases on downvaluations.
To explain - a re-mortgage agreed on 65%LTV. Downvaluation now means client needs 80% product. So I was advised by C&G to submit the new product on their on-line system which was done. It's taken 5 days for them to look at it and then say declined!
Why? - apparently becuase they have tightened up on credit scoring!!!! Well if that is the service and unpredictability they are offering, there is no way under TCF I can waste a clients time and money with C&G

Herbie - sorry to be cheeky but do you know if at present there are any plans for C&G to pull the 75% LTV 5 yr fixed rate? We are currently with C&G but hopefully moving to the Woolwich if our valuation is okay (done yesterday)- but if it is being pulled I might jump to the C&G rate before if possible so as not to take the risk.0

I was thinking C & G seem to be one of the more flexible lenders around at the moment
- however this perception is merely based on the fact that C & G have a deal with Northern Rock to offer remortgages for NR's customers at end of fixed rates - I received a letter but haven't taken up offer - and also the poster on the thread about the mortgage offer (Bristol & West) being withdrawn on day of completion appears to have been able to get a new mortgage with C & G quite quickly (with a guarantor though).
Sounds like C & G are getting jittery. Unsettling times indeed.0 -
I never use them period. They have had serivice issues since the year dot and until I get confirmed reports from other brokers of a continued decent level of service I will continue to not use them.0

I'm with you.
When it was all dealt with at branch, their service was second to none.
Since it was all centralised, no one there seems to take ownership of anything or give a damn.I am a Mortgage adviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. If a case is absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, a no brainer, going to get through, I will use them. But I still keep my fingers crossed and warn the clients of their incompetence.
I have it on goodish authority that it is C&G who are more likely to suffer from the Halifax takeover. Phew!I am a Mortgage Consultant and don't like to be told what I can and can't put in a signature so long as it's legal and truthful.0 -

Certainly hope so. Seeing as Halifax ( generally ) have a very good name in the mortgage market, and C & G ( generally) don't, it would make sense to market under the stronger brand.
They could certainly learn from Halifax about on line proceesing. C & G's caseflow ( or should I say caseslow) system is one of the most painful to use going.I am a Mortgage adviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. A friend called it Saniflow the other day, because all his cases were going down the pan:rotfl:I am a Mortgage Consultant and don't like to be told what I can and can't put in a signature so long as it's legal and truthful.0

My recent experiences with C&G have reinforced my view that they only employ idiots incapable of undertaking basic requests.0

I've been with them for almost a year and while the product that I took was one of the markets best at the time, the service from the call centre has been awful. On occasions I've been on hold for almost an hour and their callback feature simply rings the number you give them and then puts you into the queue for another long wait. Thankfully I have not had to contact them for some time. Patience definitely required to deal with these guys.0

Have to say that I can't speak highly enough of C&G at the moment!

They were the only company willing to touch us, even with my Dad as a guarantor. They have been great at sorting out our mortgage very quickly. We had an AIP on Wed, survey done Thurs, had received written offer by Saturday. I was worried that they might decide the property had decreased in value since the last valuation was done in July and it's been 3 weeks since we were due to complete. But it came back fine. Touch wood, we should be completed and in our new place by the middle of next week.0
