Hi there
My elderly dad has just got a laptop - and guess what - he's making my life a misery! Forever on the phone how do I do this that and the other.
Is there any software that I can buy that will link my PC/laptop up to his so that I can see exactly what he is doing so that I can help him - it is such hard work trying to assertain exactly what he is trying to do.
Many thanks
Terri

If you can teach him how to start it, there's Remote Assistance built in. Get him to use MSN Messenger and add you as a contact. He can then right click on your contact when you're online and select "Ask for Remote Assistance". You can then see what's on the screen and share control of the PC.0

Try logmein.com - create an account, give him the password and have him install the software on his laptop and set a specific connection password. Then when you go to the website with the same account you should see his machine - enter his machine's password and you can connect directly from the web browser. Doing it this way means that it works through routers/firewalls without having to reconfigure them.0

Remote assistance may also appear in the Programmes menu, particularly if he has XP Pro. Saves you going through messenger, setting up account, etc. etc... I have a not-quite-MiL just like this and I know from experience that the less hurdles there are, the better! My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Logmein is good, but you will have to pay after 1 month IIRC.
I use teamviewer with my grandmother and that seems to work well. It does automatically disconnect when idle so isn't great for transferring files, but is fine for "how do I's" or changes / upgrades.0 -
Logmein has a free option which works brilliantly.0
