Security Light

Just a quick question. I am thinking about sticking a security light over our garage doors (double garage) to provide some light when we get out of the cars and walk to front door.

I was looking at the this one from Screw Fix...

http://www.screwfix.com/prods/99280/Lighting/Floodlights/Controlled-Floodlighting/IQ-Hi-Lo-PIR-Floodlight-150W;jsessionid=FNBIN113CDR3WCSTHZOCFFA?ts=30645#

Could I simply mount this on the wall, drill through and wire it up to a plug and then simply plug it in to a nearby plug socket? Or does it need to be hard wired in properly (probably by a sparky or somebody with more of a clue than me)?

Cheers

they are intended to wired up to the mains. If you have power in your garage it wouldn't be a big job to connect it up but as with all things electrical, if you are not sure what you are doing its probably best left to a professional.

Also depending on where you live, there may also be legal restrictions on what you can and cant do (part P) which I dont know much about (dont apply to scotland)

Thanks, I suspected as much. I will have a look tonight and see what sort of electrical bits and pieces we have got in the garage that I could wire it up to.....

A permanent install into a fused switch is required.

Thanks. Sounds like I might have to get somebody in who knows what he is doing.

I have already got a security light fixed over my garage (professionally installed by the way) but I have had to switch the dratted thing off. My neighbourhood is cat central and the light was literally flashing on and off constantly as the local moggies parade up and down my drive all night!

I do not own a cat myself but for example my two nearest neighbours have got 5 between them. I wish I knew how to deter them and get them to stay on their own property:confused:. They are very fond of leaving little "messages" in my garden too.

Get a dog. We looked after a friends for a week while they were away and the cats stayed well clear after the first time she chased them. They have started to come back now so it might be time to borrow her again :)

Sorry latecomer, the cure sounds worse than the disease.

Not a dog lover either I'm afraid!
