About to smash my computer monitor

Hi,
I am hoping someone out there can help me otherwise i am going to launch my monitor out the window.
Its a Daewoo 518x and i can only have to screen sizes, 800x600 or 1024x768 and only in highest 32 bit colour.
My brightness and contrast are both at 100 (1 - 100) and it is still dark. Its driving me mad.
When i go on to update the driver it just crashes and says an error occurred, something to do with a DLL file.
I'm sure i should be able to have a smaller screen size, somewhere inbetween as the 1024x768 is way too small and also i'm sure my brightness should only be around 75.
Can someone please help me with anything at all? Sorry if this doesn't make sense.
Thank you.
Carrie x

What operating system are you using, it might be that the "adapter" driver has been corrupted.0

Dunno why it is dark though
The computer i use at work has more than 2 screen settings i'm sure.....although i will check tomorrow. What i meant about the 32 bit colour was that it won't allow me to keep 16 bit colour (although don't know if i should or not) it changes itself to 32 bit.Tony_H wrote:What operating system are you using, it might be that the "adapter" driver has been corrupted.
I am using Windows XP Home edition.
It wouldnn't surprise me if the driver has been corrupted as this computer is riddled with corrupted files at the moment (until i get my new McAfee virus scan working hopefully.) I think i actually have a trojan virus or a worm on it....

gizmoleeds wrote:Ah - I see. So you want fewer colours. Don't know why it does that, but at least it's not as bad as what my old PC did - it got stuck on 16 colours  (not 16-bit, 16-colours :rotfl: )
Sounds good lol.
I checked my computer at work and the screen size there is 1152x864 and that is what i would like at home but like i say it only gives me the option of the 2 sizes mentioned above.
I don't know if i would want less than the 32 bit colour (don't really know what the difference is)
Does anyone know what i need to do...i still can't update the driver because it crashes and says a problem with a dll file has occured.

Could b a driver/gamma problem.
What graphics adaptor do you have? Is it a PCI card? or AGP card? Or onboard (built-in to motherboard)?
This can be found by right clicking on my computer, properties, hardware tab, device mgr, expand display adaptor. Report back what it says.......Maybe its worth a try forcing the driver installation by doing it the manual way.....0 -
The brigthness/contrast issue may be down to a setting within windows itself, rather than a setting on the monitor. You should have a quick gander through your adapter display properties (Right click desktop, properties, settings, advanced) and see if you can find a section called 'Gamma' see what that's set to. Also see if you can spot any other settings that may be causing the brightness issue.carrie483 wrote:My brightness and contrast are both at 100 (1 - 100) and it is still dark. Its driving me mad.
