multi card reader

Good morning all,
I need advise on a multi card reader which I bought few years ago, it has built in Trans flash (micro SD) reader, it reads 2GB card no problem but it won't read 4GB Micro SDHC, can confirm that the SDHC card is not faulty.
Do I have to replace with the newer card reader or is there software can update? Thanks in advance.

Is it specifically meant to be compatible with SDHC? If not then I very much doubt it would read them as it is a different specification and requires the appropriate firmware. A software upgrade just wouldn't do it and I doubt any card reader manufacturers either upgrade their firmware or build card readers with firmware that's upgradeable anyway. So if it doesn't read it your only option if you want a reader that is compatible is to buy a new one."She is quite the oddball.
