hi thriftymomma is your gas for heating only? Ours is just for heating the house and water and will now be £110 per month and we only have it on these days about 3 hours a day.
Is your electric the new price with the big increase?

Its so expensive now isn't it?0 -
Oh so the letters are out - I'm away from home at the moment so haven't seen it.
I'm currently paying £29 a month for 2 of us but to be honest it wasn't actually meeting our costs anyway. I had been paying £45 a month but had built up a big credit so figured I'd drop it until the credit ran out. I suspect we'll be back up around £45 again. We also pay £129 a month gas although that was covering some arrears so we shouldn't have to put up our DD because of the price rises....0 -
Hi everyone My electricty monthly was increased last year to £60 and I haven't got the dreaded letter informing me of the new increase, dread it coming. There is only myself and DH I don't use tumble drier because of the high bill and I only use the dishwasher 2 times a week. My shower is power and so uses water from hot cyclinder. Other than sit in dark and have no luxuries ie dishwasher/TV don't know where I can save. I also turn off standbys when going to bed. My lecky bill has always been high used to think it was the meter but when I moved house the high charges came with me .......no joy there. I thought it was just me as most of my friends don't seem to have the bills I have, their bills are about £30-35 monthly. I can see Im not on my own plenty of you have this same problem. My electric is £70 and my gas is £50. I used to pay £101 a month for electric! I've paid by direct debit for years and never missed a payment so this figure wasn't for that. My gas used to be £56. I'm going to stop switching suppliers because they always promise you the earth (ie. smaller payments), and after a while they have to hike it up because you've underpaid!
MY sons were terrible for leavng game consoles and the TV on all night (while they were sleeping!) Now we've moved house and their bedroom isn't upstairs from us anymore, so it's easier for me to check that everything's off now. They used to switch stuff back on before, but their bedroom is now next to ours - so I can hear them moving about now.
Also, since we've moved, the dryer is in the garage and not at all handy to use. I've used it 3 times since June - I used to use it every couple of days before. I bought an extra clothes horse for over the bath instead, as no-one takes a bath in this house.
The gas should be less because this house has a relatively new boiler. Our old house had a 14yo back boiler, and if you just wanted hot water you had to put on the heating as well.
This is for 4 adults and 2 children, and it's a 4 bed detached house. We're with British Gas.
Last year i'd been in credit with my gas and they wanted to increase my DD from £56 to £57 a month. I phoned and asked them why. They kept it at £56.0 -
