Hello everyone
Our direct debit was £36 per month and it has increased to £49!
We are a family of 3 (1 teenage son) and out all day and have the usual electrical items, eg dishwasher used about every 2 days, washing machine every day and tumble dryer about 3 hours a week and 3 PCs/laptops.
I am really interested in hearing what other people pay. Do you think what we pay is reasonable?
Many thanks in advance :A

hi
our electric is £58 per month dd. (no increased yet)
gas was £35 but going up to £50 (they wanted it to be £68 but managed to lower it for now.
So for first time gone over the £100 a month bracket £108 for both. On my last statement i was in credit for my electricity by £35 so some bonus.0 -
Ours has gone from £65 in April to £110 this month. Around 3000+ units per quarter.0

They don't hang about good old NIE, 33% price rise took effect 1st October increased DD letter 2nd October, robbing Barstewards:mad:
I'm digging a trench out to the lamp post now;)I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
up from £44 to £72. Absolutely horrified. Partly down to price increases, and partly down to having underpaid last year. Tried to up our DD before payment review time came round, but it was too little too late.
We are two adults and a toddler. We use washable nappies, so I am happy that some of the extortionate price of electricity is cancelled out by savings on disposable nappies, we have just been really unlucky to have two really wet summers in a row and no choice but to use the tumble drier to dry the nappies. When we were just two adults, our electricity use was miniscule in comparison.0 -
Our DD has gone from £20 to £40. Am appalled!! We are a 2 adult family, and even when the price increase is taken into consideration, there's no way we could use up £40 electricity per month. Haven't had time to sit and work it out properly yet- top of to do list, but we have gas CH and cooker, no dishwasher or tumble dryer. About 5 loads of washing a week, 2 computers, TV etc.0

I pay £70 a month electric and £45 a month gas. I got a bill today and all of a sudden we are £150 in debit with the leccy- worse still was it was an estimated reading and I have just checked and our meter is way higher than that. Am gonna have to sit in the dark all winter I think. I just don't know where the units go!Got Halifax Classic to reduce my interest rate by 5% woohoo - 10/06/08 Thanks MSE!
Another 3% shaved off 10/12/08
ANOTHER 4 % June 09:beer:0 -
Thanks everyone for your replies. Hope more people respond as its interesting reading this. :T
I am trying really hard to keep the electric low but am not doing too well as no one else in the house seems to care and they continue to leave all the lights on and forget to turn off the cooker for ages and the iron etc....
These greedy companies NIE and Phoenix Gas make me so angry - it must be really awful for people on really low incomes who have to choose between eating and heating....
