Student loan on masters

Hi,
I'm planning on on doing a postgraduate taught masters , and I wanted to know whether it was possible to get a student loan if you are planning ? The fees for it will be £3,000 plus living and accomodation expenses, way too much for me to pay with a part time job alone.

I don't think you can get a student loan if you are doing a postgraduate masters degree. You're best bet would be to phone the student loans company or log on to their website and ask them.
If you don't qualify for a student loan then you may want to investigate the possibility of a career development loan or a professional studies loan.0 -
no, the student loan is only available for your first degree which presumably you took for your BA.

there is no statutory funding for postgraduate courses unless you are doing teacher training. You will need to find your fees and your living costs. You could consider a career development loan, but you will need to meet the criteria and will also need to be able to start paying it back very soon after you finish.

You could also try applying to the research councils - your department will be able to tell you which is the one for your subject area. Also, ask the department if there are any scholarships or bursaries to apply for.
Otherwise, you could consider studying part time and working? Also think about whether you really need to do a masters?"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."0 -
Although there is no interest accruing for the first year (while you are studying), the interest rate will then be around 13%! My daughter has had to jump through hoops to get one, but the banks will not necessarily OK you, and there is a penalty for early repayment,0

Depending on what you're doing, your department may offer scholarships. I was lucky as my department in Newcastle offered me a scholarship of £3200 towards my fees. All I had to pay was the extra £50. I say ring up and find out! It was a big help to me as the CDL helps me cover the rest of my expenses.
Good luck

What about getting yourself a part-time job at the Uni as they usually have special fee deals for staff but then you may need to do your course over 2 years.
The deal where my friend works is that he's has to average 18 hours of work over a one year period & then he as no fees to pay but has an MA is a bit more pricey the head of the dept. had to authorise the course.0 -
just finished my taught MSc. You dont get any council help/extra student loan money with your masters.
I approached the uni directly and they granted me a studentship and a hardship award. I think your best bet is to talk to your university's financial support department.
The rest of my year was fiananced by left over student loan money from my BSc and opening 2 more 0% overdrafts.0
