The essentials tariff is withdrawn as of today, friday.
It is replaced with a tariff that gives people free insulation, and when it is installed a £50 credit.
BG have decided that after reached their 500k person limit on people on that tariff they will withdraw it for one that is more proactive .. or are they money grubbing.
Thats the news, like to hear yout thinking ...

Well that is unfortunate, what are the rates on the new tariff and is there still the guarantee of no increase until March 09 like there was on essentials?0

Essentials Advance is not a tariff. It's a package that provides free insulation for vulnerable customers and a £50 credit off their bills once the work is carried out.
It is not to give short term cheaper rates but to increase the energy efficiency of the property to provide longer term benefits.

So that's a 70% increase on social tariff customers' bills come April? Way to go, British Gas!
(There's an error with your signature smiley, Smidgey. Shouldn't that be its middle fingers it should be gesturing to us with?)0 -

smidgey, thanks for your signature confirming where you work, if only more people stuck to the rules...
(On topic) I thought the energy companies have to now come up with a 'social tariff' that is actually cheaper than ALL their other tariffs (including online)? What's the time frame for this, any ideas?Call me Carmine....

[STRIKE]Forcing[/STRIKE] Encouraging the Utility companies to make 'social' payments/tariffs/benefits is an abdication of responsibilty by HM Government.
This doesn't affect their profits, they achieve the same revenue by cross-subsidy on tariffs - 'Robbing Peter to Pay Paul'.
This was the same reason why ministers decided not to impose a windfall tax on the utility companies, they would raise the money by raising prices - so the windfall tax would be paid by us consumers.
The Government should tackle the problem of 'fuel poverty' not the Utility companies.0 -
