BG 39p charge

Every night 39p gets taken off my prepaid gas meter. My husband rang to query the charge, and was told him it was because we were not using enough gas. Surely this can't be right, how can they penalise you for using less gas?. I'm going to ring them myself tomorrow and see if I can get some sense out of them, has this happen to anyone else and did you get a better explanation?
Thanks

BG don't charge standing charge, instead what they do is apply the charge to the price of the gas you use, i'm going to guess that your meter is not showing enough usage to cover the minimum weekly ammount of stnading charge and is now reclaiming it that way, either that or they've calcualted your usage etc and the same applies but they've sent the underpaid standing charge to the meter as a debt.
(Disclaimer: I don't know for sure)0 -
The 39p is the daily difference between tier 1 and tier 2.
The meter charges what you use at tier 2, over a quarter you need to use 670 kWh at tier 1. If you have used more than (days*daily threshold) for that quarter it will convert some of the gas you have been charged at Tier 2 to Tier 1, which costs 39p.
I don't like it, but apparently it's been going on since BG removed the standing charge. They did look at what they could do to get rid of it, but the answer came back no0 -
How much are you being charged per kWh?
Have you considered switching to ebico who will charge you 3.77p per kWh incl. VAT.
No standing charge. No hidden charges. Just the same flat rate per unit no matter how much or how little you use
(including pre-payment meters)
