Second chance offer, seller wants more .

I lost my bid for a mountain bike .Out bid by a zero rate person .
20 minutes after auction finished 7:20 am this morning they sent an email ,saying I had been given a second chance offer ...Only I have just read it and the seller says he wants £40.00 more than I offered he says he wanted it to go for more than the start price ..What I offered ..
I am thinking I will just email him with original offer ..But seems a bit odd to ask for more .
If I was to click on the second chance offer surely it would let me buy at the price I bid at ?

It should do, although the buyer may be able to set it for a price they want. I am not 100% sure. It should say on the second chance email. No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!
Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T0 -
If you accept the 2nd chance offer, you'll be able to pay the price you bid... but if he wants more, he may refuse to sell it for that price.
I would refuse to pay more if they insist. Think about it... why is there even a 2nd chance offer? Did he try this trick with the winner? My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
I just had a look on ebay
I found thisHow much can I charge for the item?
The person you send the offer to is always offered the item at their highest bid. You can't change this price. If their bid wasn't high enough for you, don't make the Second Chance Offer to the bidder.
If you and the bidder agree a price different than their original high bid, we recommend you make an agreement to relist the item at that price in a Buy It Now listing. This will ensure you sell the item via the eBay checkout. The buyer will be eligible for the eBay or PayPal payment protection programmes. We strongly discourage selling outside the eBay platform - it's more risky, it isn't subject to feedback and it may constitute fee avoidance.
Lets hope he still wants to sell0 -

I wouldn't bother with it if i were you and report him to ebay for circumvation of fees if he wanted more he should have listed it for more.
Like this guy here is using another account to up the price see the other auctions too where zero bidder on we-know-who-you-are auctions and see how they put the price up but do not win anything in the ended listings

stick to your original offer, or just dont bother at all.
the supposed winner with a zero rating stinks a bit.
id be tempted to just not bother.Get some gorm.0 -
i wouldnt bother with it as you arent willing to pay 40 more than you initially bid - he might be a little stupid if he offers this (which i think he has) and you accept it - with the new feedback regime and him not being able to neg you - you should let others know what he is up to.... alternatively, leave it be and move on! good luck0

Well, I have heard some tall ones in my life - but I can explain how this scam works. You (a) place a bid. The seller (b) regesters a new id as buyer (c) who, zero rated, places a bid higher than yours at the last moment. Seller (b) wants more than you have offered so then maintains that buyer (c) has pulled out and so they are able to offer you a second chance offer. Under NO circumstances should this be more than your original offer. The seller is lucky that you have not reported the matter to eBay - I would have! Having bought and sold on eBay for four years I have met almost all the scams that go on - but this one takes the biscuit!
No matter how much you want the bike, please try to find one from a reputable seller - there are loads of them about as 99% of sellers are honest. It's up to you - but you do have the option of reporting this seller.0 -
walk away now, is this really how you want to do business and with someone who could be dodgy.0
