HELP dishwasher not washing

hi need some advice. we opened our dishwasher a a wash cycle and found that it didnot wash the dishers and the dispenser that releases the washpowder block was still closed and the washpowder block was still there.

i tried loads of different things but then noticed usually when we use the heat setting used 65 the dishwasher gives off a lot of heat from the wash cycle but this time there was no heat being given off on any of the cycles.

if the heating element is knackered would this cause the washpowder block not to be used and the dispenser not to be open at the end of the cycle

i have a hotpoint swd 60p dishwasher if it is the element can i easily can this
