Cancelling store/credit cards

Does anyone know the cancellation proceedure for store cards such as GE capital cards(debanhams/Laura ashley)and argos because I have not been able to get through to any of them via phone!!!!

    Make sure you've cleared the balance on the card(s), and just end them a letter requesting they cancel your cards, and close your accounts with them. Request they confirm they have done so in writing.

    I have always written a letter and confirm if you have destroyed all cards on the account. They always write back to acknowledge your letter.

    I have also written them a letter and sent them the cut up cards. They have always replied as well.
