Best Oyster discount

Hi, my first post and apologies if its been covered already -

Im a student and have a Young Persons Railcard and was wondering what is cheapest discount available for a student with an Oyster card: applying for a student Oyster photocard or registering my student railcard to receive the lower cap?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

You save a third on the daily cap for pay as you go...

If you buy weekly or monthly passes for travel in london then the photo oystercard will give you 30% off.

So basically if you are going to buy a weekly or monthly pass get a photocard if you only use pay as you go just register your YPR :)

And my personal advice would be if you live in london and reguarly use the transport then get a weekly or monthly pass. Deffo.

Does it apply to bus travel?

If its a single journey, no you still have to pay the 90p with your oyster.

You can get the weekly, monthly and yearly that saves you 30%.

Be advised that the photo card that you require costs £5.

If you are under 19, in full time education and living in London you can travel on the buses and trams for free. You can also get discounts for the tube and pay the child rate.
  • I have a railcard, and had a photooyster for a year (still have it, but its expired so is now classed as a regular oyster)
I didn't save anything by having the student oyster card.
I find the whole thing very confusing.
But I was wondering what do you mean by registering your railcard?

    Hi There,

I've a question about visiting London and oyster card. I've got one that I used last year. My DD is 11 and I've left it too late to apply for her photocard.

Question is - should I get a travelcard for myself for 3 days then I believe she can travel with me for £1 fixed fee per day (will be using tube mostly) or should I top up my oyster card and pay the £8.70 for a child travelcard for her?

    Thanks for the help,
