  • i think it's morally wrong what my last insurer did to me, but everyone on here was saying it wasn't breaking any law, so i have to put up with it

so long as this is within the law then i'll give it a go

While it may be legal it is morally wrong

In your opinion! Not in the Moneysaving slant.

It is a moneysaving loophole that can be taken advantage of.

If against your morals then don't do it.

But don't attempt to impose this moral attitude on this website - you will have your work cut out!

  • i see why you would want to do this but this really is freeloading. you call yourself low risk...I am a driving instructor so I am VERY low risk and i have never had a claim BUT i still pay for a policy JUST INCASE. People who do nt pay for policies mean that evryone else pays more. People can claim as a third party for several years and if you had a couple of people claim against you I am sure the insurers would demand the premium.

If the insurers are quoting you an amount you cant pay then look at a temporary policy perhaps. You will only build up a no claims with a complete year with a company, they issue a certifiate for the year which you send to your next insurer etc etc.

Shop around, buy the cheapest 3rd party F&T cover and then you can relax. All it will take is one mix up and you could end up uninsured and paying a fortune otherwise.

Just take at look at OPs other threads, someone needs to have some morals on this site or do you condone this.

Sorry OP but you haven't thought this through.

Saying you are a good risk is unrealistic. What if you car is stolen? Claims often take months to pay out, not days as you have suggested so you would need money available to pay your insurance + excess while the claim is being investigated.

Car insurance also takes a while to set up. Every week for a year you would be filling in forms, sending of copies of documents etc and would take a lot of time and effort.

The MID insurance database would not be up to date so you run a high risk of being stopped by the police and having to explain what is going on. The MIS database is not updated immediately, it can take up to 14 days.

You also run the risk of trying to get insured with the same company more than once. Many companies now operate under different brand names, but use one system provided by one company. Having recently worked at one of the biggest insurance intermediaries in the country I can confirm this and you could be found out quite easily. As this would be regarded as abusing the system the insurer would be within their right to cancel your policy which would send any future premiums sky high (as you have to legally disclose if you have had insurance cancelled).

That is just a starting point, there are many more reasons.
