i have had a capital one standard visa for over a year now. when i applyed for it they gave me a limit of £200. I was happy with that as it was only for internet shopping and that meant i could pay off the balance twice over at the end of the month (useing my spendable money after bills etc).

The card has been well below its limit if not clear most of the time and have never been over its limit. Now i keep getting phone calls and letters asking to up my limit. I have told them no etc etc, but the last call i had the advisor said if i dont up my limit soon they will take the card away from me.

I am not that bothered as i can use my bank card (debit card) on the internet but liked the fact that if someone got hold of my detail they couldnt get hold of my wages.

Can capital one do this? or is it just a threat to get me to sign up to more credit?

Why not just take the extra limit and stay using the card the same. You appear disciplined, so why worry?

I am worried if i take the extra limit and then someone gets hold of the details and spends on the card how can i prove it wasnt me and if i cant it will put me into debt and i cant afford to pay off a card that hasnt be spent by me!
