Vista start up problems

I am using the standard Vista operating system. When starting uo my pc it runs theough the normal first screen (showing ram, primary & slave drives etc) with no problems. The next screen shows the word Vista and a horizontal scrolling bar, the pc will not move on from this screen. If I press the reset button a few times it will move on and I am able to log on, however the number of times I am having to press the reset button is increasing and I am worried it will not work at all soon.
Anyone any ideas?
Thanks

Maybe you have some nasty on your machine?
Try Malwarebytes (update and run a QUICK scan)

How long are you waiting before pressing the reset button? If you've got a lot of things starting up, it could take a few minutes.
Pressing the reset button just makes matters a whole lot worse as it corrupts files on the hard drive.0
