Problems with Abbey card cashback

My Abbey card was supposed to give cashback on purchases until the end of July but after giving me £19 in May nothing appeared. When I rang to query this they said they thought it would come in a lump sum at the end of the cashback period but nothing has appeared. I put about £400 a month on this card for the cash back and now feel swindled. Haven't contacted them yet - has anyone else had trouble or sorted it out?

  • Thanks all - yes, I know it was only for supermarket spend so I put everything on there and they owe me about £45. Has no-one else had trouble getting their cash back?

I'll have to ask a few questions:

How long have you had the card?

Which shops did you use it in?

It seems to me that you might be owed a lump sum. Do you have the May date on your statement when the cashback was last added? That might help identify the issue. There have been problems in the past year between Abbey and retailers on the cashback, but this was a while ago and was resolved usually by the time of the next statement for people who only got some entitled cashback or none at all.
  • I've had the card since April and only used it in Sainsbury's to get the relevant cash back.
Last cashback was put on card on 20th June for May spend.
From then until end of July I spent £996.98 in Sainsbury's - cashback due £49.85.
I did ring when nothing appeared on the July statement and was told I would probably get a lump sum when the scheme ended but still nothing. Suppose I should ring again but just wondered how widespread the problem was.

    Thanks for that Pam.

So you should have cashback for July and August statements.

May I ask though, what sort of items did you get at Sainsburys? I assume it's all food shopping?

If it's not on the October statement I'd contact Abbey again to sort this.
  • Yes, all food shopping - well, some alcohol - if that counts as food! :-)
I will chase them after the next statement. Had the same trouble with Barclaycard - supposed to be 3 months at 4% but after 1 month it dropped to 0.5%. guess I'll just have to gird my loins for calls to service centres!
    Thanks
    Pam
