Replacing a back boiler

Hi,
I've been looking at this site for many months but never posted.
I've recently bought my first flat which has a pretty old back boiler with one of the ugly fire fronts. I was hoping to get this replaced with a new combi boiler and gas fire but I have no idea where to start. Does anyone know roughly what sort of cost I'll be looking at? The radiators in all the rooms seem to be in good condition so I'm not sure if they need replaced.
If anyone can help out or point me in the direction of someone who can in Edinburgh i'd be very grateful.
Cheers

Well replacing a back boiler unit is a very good idea as it is a fuel guzzler changing for a combi Condensing boiler is a ideal thing to do for you. When changing a boiler nowadays the radiator valves should be changed to TRV's (thermostatic radiator valves) which is to do with energy efficiency and also change to programmer able room stats.0

o and make sure anyone you get in for a quote is corgi register you can look on corgi's site and when they come to visit you ask for the corgi id card.
try avoid big companys i tend to think if you go for a one man band he will be more professional in his work than a employee of a big company thats my view.
being im a plumbing and heating engineer myself0 -
Thanks for the advice Antric, do you have any idea of what sort of cost i'm looking at? Even a rough guide would help as cash is tight and i'm replacing some windows as well.0

you can get a new combi fitted here for 1500 quid.
ive heard of other areas where 3k is the going rate.
you may have to pay a bit extra to remove the old boiler/fire etcGet some gorm.0 -
i think about £3000 is more the mark.
when it comes to tradesmen the saying pay peanuts get monkeys very much applies im not a cheap plumber if anything im more expensive than any others locally but my standards of work are far higher than them0 -
I didn't have a 'cheap' plumber do my work, but I got charged £2500 for removing backboiler and hotwater tank, installing combi boiler in kitchen and installing 2 new radiators where there weren't rads before. So I think £3k would be steep even with a top of the range combi boiler. It took our guy 3 days to do the above work.
//edit we're in Surrey and plumber was based in Berkshire.0 -
Thanks for all the advice everyone, if I can get it for around £2500 I think i'd be fairly happy. Is there anyone who can recommend anyone in the Edinburgh area?0

I cant recommend anyone but if you get someone good please let me know as I'm also in the area and will be looking for someone in the next 6 months or so.0
