please help , in a pickle with laptop .

I have been trying to install a wireless connection into a laptop [ a medion from Aldi that I bought about 4 years ago ] It hasn't been used for a couple of years . I have just installed a Bt broadband router onto my PC and I thought that it would be so convenient to be able to use a little laptop elsewhere in the flat . I have got an ' excellent signal ' but I cannot join the internet . There doesn't seem to be a windows explorer or a homepage . I have been fiddling about with it for hours . [ actually 2 full days and all last night ] I soo don't want to be beaten by the rascal . OH says to take to be repaired , but I would love to be able to fix it myself .. with a little advice if possible . I am not a techie , but I would love to beat this .

Please please could someone tell me what this report means and what I should do next .

the HTTP Error 12007 is a firewall security error, so i would imagine the router/software firehwall is stopping the wireless connection accessing the HTTP.

Try checking your ip address and default gateway addresses, when running on wireless

Goto START > RUN and type in cmd
    then type in ipconfig/all
will have to post back with results of what you get

put the ip address 192.168.1.254 in your browser address bar and hit the enter key.

does it access the router config page?

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :should be 192.168.1.254, check your tcpip settings, and make sure ie is set to never dial a connection.

not necessarily - depends on the make of the router.
the above ipconfig/all readout doesnt give a default gateway - but does give a dns server of 192.168.1.254

sometimes the default gateway and the dns server may be the same IP, but not always.

If you can access the router setup page - check to see if mac adddress filtering is ON and if it is try turning it off and see if that helps.
