Changing supplier - no idea which!

Hi, I live with my Husband in a 3 bed semi-detached house. This is our first home so Im not too sure of what is best for suppliers. We are currently with Scottish Power but after the problems my parents have had with them saying they owe money we would like to switch as we do not want to have these problems also. Oh, we use prepay meter too.
I have done a few searches and EDF have come top in 2 of those but only with a saving of £14 which really wont be noticable but since we want to change I suppose it doesnt matter.
Ebico was second with a saving of £9, but they have no standing charges.. which could be a bonus right? Since were on prepay meter. Im quite disappointed they upped their prices today as yesterday I was quite set on going with them as they were top with a saving of £150! Im surprised the saving is so low now

Like I say, this is our first home so were just needing a little guidance from people in the know, but these look like they could be good choices to go with. Kind of swaying towards Ebico due to no standing charges and since they went up in price yesterday there should be a while before it goes up again right? I hope lol.

Any advice for first-timers? :o
Thanks

Sorry but I dont really see how a similar post can be of any help to me? Yes they may be similar but Im looking for something specific to my case if anyone can help.
This is my first time having to deal with this kind of thing so I absolutely have no idea.
I dont even know what my provider charges for each unit or anything like that. Will have to contact them for lots of info as they still havent switched the electric/gas to us and we still use my parents key/card! I figured it would just be easier to switch company, especially since my parents are having trouble with the company now which I dont want to have too.
If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Bills give you the unit rates but your supplier shopuld also have written to you with the info too. Have you looked on their website.

You've probably got no response from anyone else because it's the same sort of question as 'how long is a piece of string'.

First of all, you'll need to get a current key/card/account set up for yourself (together with your husband if preferred). As you are currently using your parents key/card, you won't be able to change supplier until you have a key/card/account of your own.

You mentioned your parents had run up a debt. By you using their key/card you will probably be spending money paying off their debt - another reason to get yourself registered with your existing supplier asap.
