Sorry we stay further out than your preferred area , 50 odd miles away but hubby does the comute everyday with no problems even in winter .Vampires Rock :eek:0

live 50 miles away too, but my sil and bro live in ellon and they both work in aberdeen, not sure about other towns though, think most people live outwith aberdeen and commute every day
great area to live in though:D0 -
I used to live in Aberdeen but work in Stonehaven which is about 15 -16 miles south of Aberdeen on the A90. My commute wasn't a problem, as I was going in the opposite direction to everyone else.
How long a commute do you want to do every day? One person might be okay with half an hour in the car and the next person might be okay with an hour.0 -
Very much depends on where you are going to work.
I live between Kintore and aberdeen and commuting to the center is no problem,
If you are working in Dyce or Bridge of don. -
look at Ellon - very busy road to work
Kintore - you will quickly find the back roads.
Larger town - Inverurie 4 miles from kintore
Blackburn - Small town between Kintore and Aberdeen
Small village can be good My recommendation would be Fintray - small community wiith nice pub.
If you are working on the south side, Bridge of Dee, Torry, Altens then you should relocate to either Stonehaven on somewhere on deeside or city. Deeside is the west end and is therfore the expensive areas, all the way to Bancory and beyond.
Other towns such as old meldrum, Alford are further out but still within commuting range.
Areas such as west hills seem popular but IMO are just large housing developments.
Tell me the area you will be working in and i will give you more info on the specific areas within simple commuting range.Just A Grumpy old Jedi0 -
A further thought Kintore and Ellon??? Did you see them on the map? you would need to visit thes places to get an ide of what they are like. I know both very well and neither would be my first choice if mooving to the area. I am not saying anything is wrong with them but they are a significant distance appart.
North of aberdeen i would be looking at Inverurie, Kemnay, Old Meldrum and Alford. Huntly is nice but i would chose to comute by train.Just A Grumpy old Jedi0 -
i live in banff but work in Huntly and would recommend Huntly or Insch to live in, not far from Aberdeen and there is a really good train service too.0

As has already been said I would base your choice or area to live on where you will be working. I stay in Kemnay, 5 miles from Inverurie and am about a 40 minute drive into the city centre at peak time although only around 20 minutes off peak.
The Inverurie/Kintore/Kemnay areas (and indeed places north of this) would be ideal if you are working at Dyce and Westhill, even Bridge of Don. If you were going to work at say, Altens and Tullos then if travelling from Kintore then you will have to get through at least 3 long traffic jams on a daily basis. Same goes for travelling to there from Ellon. The single carriageway section of the A90 can be a slow, slow journey! I stayed in the Ellon area years ago and found it rather boring anyway. I find there is much more to do where I am and shopping in Inverurie is far better too.0 -
I live in the city centre and work in westhill. It only takes me 10-15 mins to get to work (but that is at 4.15 in the morning so no cars about) but it takes me about 30 mins or so to get home and thats at 1 ish. I would recomend visiting these places thaat people have mentioned above. It may look a nice place to live but you may end up hating it. Your also need to say what your looking for around about you? Do you want somewhere where its quiet and nothing to do or somewhere where there is always something to do?0

It might be worth reading this thread. This has some ideas etc

Stonehaven, Portlethen, Westhill and Kingswells are all within reasonable commute. Not much to do in the last three really in comparison with the city, but the drive in, after rush hour, takes about 10 - 15 minutes max. (maybe 20 mins from Stoney).
If you move, just make sure you get your central heating set to go on in August and off in May :rolleyes20
