I do delias extremely boozy minced meat then make her incredibly boozy minced meat Christmas cake and feed it copious amounts of alcohol every few days till xmas. For pudding I make delias extremely boozy christmas pudding - there is only me who likes it so everyone else has trifle which is also incredibly boozy :-)
Oh dear, I think i need to address my drink problem.0 -
if it helps, there's one here that i do almost every year (the years i don't, its cos we've one left over from the previous year). very easy to do, and cos i've made it so often, i can answer questions about it if necessary. It can be steamed the regular way, in a pressure cooker or in a slow cooker. Feel free to either pm me here or on the blog, or even via the contact form, and i'll try to help!

I made this xmas pud last year and it was divine - will be making one again next week (might make two and keep one for next year!) - Thanks for the fab recipe Kethry!!!:D
Mincemeat is made already is smelling slightly alcoholic! :beer:0 -
Just a quick question, when you feed the cake regularly does it taste of raw alcohol when you come to eat it or does it mellow? I ask because I don't want a dry cake but I also want Oh to enjoy it (he isn't fond of boozy puddings like sherry trifle or tiramisu).
I can't stand alcohol in cakes or other food, so I used to feed my Christmas cake with orange juice... Not the same, but it was still good!Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
I have a traditional stir up sunday with all the extended family and make Delhias christmas pudding which is great!!
I made my first ever Christmas cake last year and it wasn't a traditional one as such was a bit lighter but quite boozy and can't remember which one but pretty sure it was from the good food website so will definitely do it again this year if I find it!0 -
Made the christmas cake at the weekend....it was the waitrose recipe. But with ingredients from elsewhere....and no booze. OH is never bothered so I use cranberry juice instead. Everyone always likes it and I save a fortune on whisky. Will ice it a few days before xmas.
We always spend xmas at my parents....and its usually a large gathering. I help mum with all the bits and we manage to get through most things xmas morning or even before.. Pud is always bought...simpler. That morning the men will get the kids.
Tea is always a buffet...sandwiches, crisps, and some cakes. Most of the cakes are bought except for one which is well liked, and can be done before hand. Banoffee pie. Simple too. Cheesecake for the base and up the sides...banana on the bottom.....toffee on top (couple of tins of condensed milk that have been heated in water for about 3 hours)...and cream on top.
Xmas isn't worth spending your life in the kitchen....even for moneysaving. We do what we can beforehand, buy what we can....and fit the rest in around xmas morning (with a few exceptions).Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move
Lily contracted Strep B Meningitis Dec 2006  Now seemingly a normal little monster.
Love to my two angels that I will never forget.0 -
I'd second the Delia one. Not normally that big a fan of her recipes as often very fiddly but the cake recipe is really good. Only thing I would say is if you are making it now I personally wouldn't feed it every week unless you like a really boozy cake! perhaps every 2-3 weeks instead.

If you want something chocolately rather than fruity, then Delia's truffle torte is incredibly easy and freezes well. It's very rich but very good. You can get glucose from most supermarkets now, it's usually in the baking aisle alongside the flavourings and colourings.0
