Help needed with finding cheap train fare to London..

Hi, would appreciate any help. I have booked a nights stay in London on the 21st of December (cheap offer with Travelodge) I have been scouring the net trying to find cheap train fares but i'm just finding it so expensive it's not going to be worth going..I've worked it out to be around £80 on the coach but it's a long journey from Bradford....

There will be 2 adults and 1 child under 15, does anyone have any ideas on where to find cheap rail travel...

Thanks in advance.....

Too early for the cheap tickets - plus it's a Sunday AND near Christmas which may mean the cheap tickets won't appear to as late as Mid-November

But go to the NXEC website and start playing with that - you'll get 10% off NXEC tickets on NXEC trains

There is an option on the website for "select slower routes" after you get the initial prices, if you click on that you may be able to find tickets for the line from Leeds to St Pancras via Sheffield which often can be cheaper - especially at short notice.

Other things to do - try the booking from Leeds and pay for Bradford to Leeds separately and consider buying a Family Railcard which MAY reduce the cost further

got to trainline.co.uk put where you going how amny people going it will tell you the costs of the whole tiket and any offers available you may find it chaeaper to book singles there and singles back also if you are traveling on a first great western train when you get on there on the day and they have a first class carrage you can upgrade for 10 quid and get all the complimnetry stuff that first class has to offer

A Railcard definitely brings the price down (by about £120 when I had a quick look) but still seems slightly expensive. But like alanrowell said it is a Sunday...

Sign up to National Express alerts and wait for the e-mail saying all fares have been released - single fares for £9 will then come on line.

Friends are going to London for the day on Saturday from Leeds and they booked first class returns last week for less than £50 each return.

I paid £100 return for two adults - one way first class, return in second. Travelling on 17 October, booked about a month before.

Trainline charges for tickets & using CCs - NXEC give you 10% off and don't charge you.
First Great Western don't run the trains from Bradford

BTW - one other possible route and that's to try going via MANCHESTER from the Interchange as e-ticketing is possible
  • Thanks for all your help. I managed to buy all 3 tickets for just over £53. I registered with the trainline website and received an email stating their cheap fares had started. Checked with them and got it to just over £70 for a National Express train, i just checked on the National Express website to see if i could get it any cheaper and i did...couldn't believe my luck...
