I know, I know, before I get any remarks like do a search etc. I have. I want to know if I can take in hand luggage with Ryanair a gas hair styler, all I can find is that you cannot carry cartridges, I have also checked Dept Transport web site where they state you cannot take large volumes of butane gas. Can anyone advise, travelling 6am flight tomorrow

Hi,
just taken this from the CAA's website:
Hair curlers containing hydrocarbon gas, no more than one per person, provided that the safety cover is securely fitted over the heating element.
Note: Gas refills for such curlers must not be carried.
The whole document can be viewed at http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/1219/20080501WhatCanICarry.pdf
Hope this helps.

My reading of the Ryanair "prohibited items" is that anything with flammable liquids or gases in them is banned unless specifically allowed - so an empty styler is OK, a filled - even partially filled - isn't0

Thanks for your prompt responses
With regard to ryanair "prohibited items" it actually states
gas & gas containers, e.g. butane, propane, acetylene, oxygen – in large volume.
So therefore do I take it that I can take one securely fitted hair styler as detailed in the CAA & Dept Transport, who I have been informed decide what can be carried not the airline - is this correct ?

I would ring thier customer services. If you try and take it and it is prohibited you may never see it again.Moving on up

Tried Customer Services, no joy, there was a language problem ! !0

I took 1 full cartridge with me in my cabin bag OUT of the styler and it was fineIf you want to get ahead in the Rat Race then you will need some faster Rats !! :rolleyes:0

If your not overly concerned about the container then remove it from the styler and put it in your handbag, the styler on it's own should be fine. Airport security are picky about anything that might be considered a weapon and they do have wild imaginations at times [think blow torch or branding iron].0
