HP DV9000 - unable to see wireless network

I have a HP DV9000 series laptop running Vista, which cannot see my wireless network if it is more than a couple of feet away from the router.
It is going back for a third time on Friday in an attempt to resolve what seems to be a well known problem (Google'd and found a few reports)
It has had a new m/board and updated bios, then a new wireless card fitted, not sure what now.
All other laptops / PCs in the house can see network from anywhere, even outside in the garden.
I am not confident that this will be sorted so if anyone else is having an issue with DV6000 or DV9000 series laptop from HP, there is a known problem.

Laptop has been collected by courier, now just have to wait and see if gets fixed this time.
3rd time lucky ?
Apparently after 3 attempts at repair it goes back to PCW for exchange or refund/credit.0 -
Well, it was fixed but has now broken again !!!!
What is wrong with HP laptop and wireless.
This time it has gone back to PCW and I have been refunded.
Now trying out an ACER 7720G, lets see if this one is any better.0
