Is it possible ?

At the moment I'm on IS with 2 young children, I am private renting and the contract is due up, there is another house going for the same price but has a garden which this house doesnt and I was wondering before I phone the benefit people up and ask them if anyone knew if it was possible just to tell the benefit people that I was moving but nothing else was changing ie rent amount and to keep the payments going instead of stopping and starting and be behind in rent. Would it be ok to move without telling them even ? I have a few job offers and hope to be off IS as soon as and I dont want to lose this house... Does any of this make sense to anyone ? Thanks

Regardless of what the actual rent is you will be paid a set amount based on the size of property you need in your area.

Phone the council and ask them what the Local Housing Allowance rate is for the size of property they say you need.

If this is lower you need to find the shortfall, if its higher than the rent you get to keep up to the first £15 weekly.

Yeah I know this, we are in a 3 bed going to a 3 bed rent is no diff, I know what they pay and I know what I have to make up for, this isnt the question tho my question is will they carry it on or will they stop and start it all again for the same amount just a change of address ?

It depends n the council, but they usually stop it then start it again, - it's faster now than it used to be though. It used to take months, in Newcastle at least it now only takes a couple of weeks
If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!

If you move and do not tell them, when they find out(and they will) they will cancel your claim as they will not know where you have gone, so you will need to start your claim again, and this will certainly take longer than if you just tell them to start with.

Very risky and surely they would find out anyway because your name/property would change for council tax, I take the assumption you are in receipt of CT benefit as well? Save yourself the hassle and just give them a buzz, if you start the ball rolling before you actually move in you shouldn't have too long to wait once you are in the property

Yes your right, I spoke to them today and if I sort the forms out now by the time I move they should have it in system.
