help needed fixing leaky tap

kitchen tap has been leaking, so turned of fwater, and tried getting bel lshaped cover off- this unscrews from the base, but i cant get it off to access the main butt / washer etc underneath..?
the handle only uncrews part way- there is a small hole in the top- will a (special?) tool or just a scredriver be needed to undo that, or do i need to unscrew something else??

Tap handles do not normally unscrew. They are usually fixed on by either a small screw under the hot/cold logo, or they have a small grub screw situated under the cross piece of the handle. Once either of these screws is removed, depending on which type you have, then the tap handle should just pull off. If, after removing the screw, the handle will not pull off, then it will need some gentle persuasion. As latecomer says, a picture will bring more replies.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
