hi there

what with the ebico tariff going up tomorrow, i asked them how it would change on a prepayment meter, they told me it can only change once you top/charge you key (paypoint).

so i decided to do mine today on the 1st before the price increase , i topped up with £ 300.00 ( would last me around a year) ,

but like halfway through topping up my key the assistant , seemed to have some difficulty , and then said i can only charge the key to 255.00 , the receipt showed 75.00, 75.00, 75.00, and 30.00

i have just put my key back in the meter it said accepted ( rest of screen was blank where it should say the topup amount going on the meter) but has not topped up my meter, key must have no topup?.

how do i go about getting a refund do i need to go back to the shop or get it from southern electic as the recipt shows my key has been topped up.

Sorry, I don't know how you obtain a refund but your attempt to beat the price rise won't work.

All you will do is create yourself a debt that will eventually need to be repaid.

A pre-payment meter is not a vending machine. By that I mean just because you obtain electricity from it does not imply you have paid for it correctly. All you are doing is ensuring you are making payments as you go in the hope it will meet the bill generated.

In your attempt to beat the increase, you will initially obtain the electricity at the cheaper rate, but your account will still reflect the price increase, meaning you have not paid in full for the electricity consumed after 02 October 2008.

A quick scan of these boards will show you how many others have been caught out by presuming that paying by pre-payment meter, they had paid the full price for the electricity consumed and were surprised when they later received notice that they had accrued a debt.

i have spoken to southern electric, who say the reason why it wont top up is the meter can only accept 249.00 i have 255.00 on my key , and 17.00 on the meter they said i need to use all that , then the emergency, put they key in and it should top-up , fingers crossed
