First Time Digital Box Buyer...........Please Help!

Hi All,

I am thinking of buying a Digi/Freeview box from my local Argos.........can you please give me your top 3 or general recommendations from the link below......my budget would be £30 max:

http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Browse?pp=20&s=Price%3A+Low+-+High&x=18&y=2&storeId=10001&catalogId=1500001151&langId=-1&c_2=2|cat_10199181|Digital%2Bboxes%2Band%2Bservices|10199362&c_3=3|cat_10199362|Freeview%2Bdigital%2Bset%2Btop%2Bboxes|10199365&c_1=1|category_root|Home%2Bentertainment%2Band%2Bsat%2Bnav|10199181

Also even though the the analogue signal in my house is quite good, the Digital isn't.......so I will have to purchase a manual indoor aerial. The max I will spend is about £15.......so can you please recommend one or suggest a few good ones from the link below:

http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Browse?pp=20&s=Price:+Low+-+High&x=19&y=8&storeId=10001&catalogId=1500001151&langId=-1&c_2=2|cat_10199181|Electrical%2Baccessories|10199205&c_3=3|cat_10199205|Television%2Baerials%2Band%2Bboosters|10199214&c_1=1|category_root|Home%2Bentertainment%2Band%2Bsat%2Bnav|10199181

Thank you very much for your kind assistance!

Regards,

Jay

Sorry Guys......for some reason the "link" didn't go on properly........if its not too bold of me to suggest....... if you would be kind enough to copy and paste it on the web to view that would be great.......if not thats fair enough.

    Thank you anyway.

    My first tip would be

Ensure you can get a digital signal.
after that I would spend as little as possible

It is very unlikely (unless the transmitter is at the bottom of your garden) that you will get a good digital signal/picture with an indoor aerial.
The digital transmitters are transmitting on about 10% of their max power at the moment and will not go to 100% until the analogue signal is switched off.

Sorry I should've mentioned........in my house my Brother has a Freeview box in his room that works just fine with an indoor aerial, but I think his Box is quite an expensive one!

I'm looking at the following brands at Argos in the £30 mark:

    Sagem

    Hitachi

    Acoustic Solutions

Anyone familiar with the quality of these brand names in general and can make a recommendation please?

    Thanks.

Have you tried your brother's box with your existing aerial?

Dont bother buying one. The quality of programming these days is so dire that only someone who has had a lobotomy could draw benefit from viewing it.

My Brother's room is actually the living room that is being used as a bedroom........that is where the aerial socket is that you connect to the TV. The TV from my room has got a long aerial cable running into his room and is connected to the socket via a Blocbuster Adapter.........normal analogue TV connection and picture is fine for all rooms using this method.

When my Brother bought his Freeview Box there was no signal when he connected the aerial cable to the Box........ he bought a manual indoor aerial which works fine.

Because of this I am doubtful that I can get a signal in my room if I connect my existing aerial cable to a Box........I could give it a try though and let you know the result.....

    Cheers

If you want to spend £4.97 to try it out, take a look at Currys website.
They are currently selling a Techwood TWDFV2 freeview box for under £5.00. (Product code 738200)

Collect from local store after reserving.
