Scottish Power v Powergen?

Have checked both suppliers today and for me they both have the same kWh rate for gas and electric with powergen coming out £25 cheaper for the standing charge minus discounts.

My question is, do either of these have a price increase in the pipeline or have they both had them recently?

Don't want to switch to one, only to have it increase it's prices when the other doesn't

Cheers

despite the bad press, powergen have had less price increases than their competitors, its just that they have had the latest on.

scottish power raised their prices in october but are due another one in jan, but whether the online tariff is affected, i have not had that confirmed.

from your post, it looks like you have gone for an internet tariff, which do usually work out cheaper. however, it you compair this to a capped tariff, you may find you'll save more in the long run.

  • Scottish Power are adding a surcharge of 80p a week to customers who have an Independent Gas Transporter (i.e. not Transco).  I have no idea how to find out who your Gas transporter is but have put out a call for help here:

May be worth factoring into your decision if you have an IGT (if you can find out that is!!)

The surcharge is 80p a week which is over £41 a year.

Only just changed supplier for the first time ever from Powergen to Scottish Power after it was confirmed to me by one of their representatives that they could provide me with much cheaper gas/electrity but having checked again today It appears that this is not the case and a different supplier entirely can provide better prices. Am I tied into a contract or can I cancel my agreement with them and move onto a different company immediately.

    Thanks

you can switch straight away but you must spend the statutory 28 days with new supplier, unless you agreed less than 7 days ago.

with regards to cheaper suppliers beware of SSE and EDF, they may same cheaper at present, but price rise due in jan.
